Enjoy the thrill of the open water in a variety of ways at Llandegfedd. We provide land and water based activities, team-building, windsurfing, dinghy sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing, kayaking, raft building, Accessible sailing, equipment hire and environmental studies.
The main advantages of sailing at Llandegfedd is that the reservoir offers clean, deep water with no weed issues. It's convenient to major population centres like Cardiff and Newport, yet we offer a peaceful and rural environment. And best of all... no currents or tides!
Llandegfedd Reservoir is located in the heart of beautiful countryside spanning the border of Monmouthshire and Torfaen in South Wales. It forms a 434 acre lake, which is 1.5 miles long and 1 mile wide at the widest point. The entire site has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its richness in wildlife.
All our programmes are organised around the requirements of each group, which can include a combination of fun activities or courses to achieve National Governing Body qualifications. Llandegfedd Watersports is a fully recognised Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Teaching Establishment, a fully accredited British Stand Up Paddleboard Association (BSUPA) centre, holds the British Canoing (BC) Quality Mark and is also licenced by the Adventure Activities Licencing Authority (AALA). All Instructors are fully qualified in their respective watersport disciplines.
We offer a full multi-activity watersports programme during school holidays for children (aged 8+) and young people in sailing, windsurfing, SUP, canoeing and kayaking.
If you have your own equipment and wish to sail, windsurf or SUP at Llandegfedd we have a range of 'pay and play' permits available. Application forms for permits can be found here, and a price list here. Canoes and sit on kayaks are also available to hire.
UPDATE - you can now bring your own sit-on-top kayak or open canoe to the reservoir (no inflatable canoes or kayaks). Please click here for the rules and regulations relating to this activity.
